Why learning a new language can be fun
Maximizing Free Time, Sizing Opportunities

Learning a new language can be a handful. But there’s no gain when there’s no effort. What if I tell you that there is an app that can actually help us learn a new language we take interest in?
In today’s email, I’m going to share some tips in learning another language effectively.
Read plenty of books. 📖📚We’re going to refer to the English language.
It doesn’t matter if it is a fictional book, nonfiction, historical, or a mystery. Name it, you can go ahead and read it.
By reading a book, it will not only allow us to encounter new words we haven’t heard of, but it will also allow us to learn the meaning of those unfamiliar words with how the sentences in a book are created and structured. As we read extensively, the unfamiliar words we encounter are piling up which we subconsciously add to our vocabulary.
Watch movies and series. 🎞️
Take note that when we watch, we need to make sure the subtitles are on in order for us to properly know what the characters are actually saying. It can also help us know how to properly pronounce some words, so this is a must.
Watch Educational Videos on YouTube.
Why don’t we take advantage of the free apps, right? There are many existing channels that offer free educational sessions in YouTube regarding vocabulary, grammar, how to properly use punctuations and so on.
Write. Write. and Write. ✍️
Getting ourselves familiar with a particular language requires our full effort poured into it. Watching and reading contents will never be enough if we don't try writing the terms we just learned in a piece of paper.
Track your progress. 📋
First of all, what are the words you have recently just learned? What those words mean? And what are the likeliness you can use those words in an ordinary convo?
Speak it like you’re in a game. 🧩
Trying to speak a new language is just like learning how to play a new game, it is hard at first, but once we get the hang of it, it will be as exciting as it gets.
One thing about attempting to learn a language is that we are afraid of making mistakes, afraid of pronouncing some words wrong, afraid of grammatical errors when constructing a sentence, etc. Once we get to realize that speaking a language requires no rule, then we'll freely do and play the game with no pressure.
I’m in no way advertising the app I’m going to mention, but I just want to share how it really helped those beginners who took an effort to learn a particular desired language.
With unique features and a clear structure, Duolingo is the best free app for learning a new language or sharpening your skills.
I just started my Duolingo Journey two months ago and I must say I now know some of Spanish words that I can use in a basic conversation.
It has 30+ languages and it provides bite size lessons of your chosen language. You do not have to worry about spending an hour of your day since you can just take lessons any time of the day. Its good feature is its streak. The streak will push you to keep having lessons every single day with its built-in reminders that will be sent to your personal email.
Now I’m in my 76th day of using the app. No skips, no shortcuts. One thing about this app is it will not allow you to finish one streak without making sure you atleast can retain the words you just learned.
So, are you one of those who take interest in learning a new language? Take advantage of your free time and install the app now. It’s free!
